Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami Shape the Next Generation in Contemporary Art

 

Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami celebrated its 14th year and 19th year respectively during Miami Art Week at Mana Wynwood Convention Center, December 4—8, with a five-day global gathering of the international art world and collectors from across the country in search of the latest innovations by the hundreds of artists showcasing their newest collections.

The annual Opening Night VIP Preview took place on Wednesday, December 4, presented by Empress 1908 Gin, with Monkey Shoulder Whisky, Pommery Champagne, Dr. Gab’s SWAF, and other libations served, while musical entertainment was provided by DJ Armando. Thousands of the world’s most affluent art dealers, collectors, artists, gallery owners, curators and art enthusiasts attended the preview for a first look at the inspirational works by the more than 1,000 artists showcased by over 280 exhibitors from around the world. In addition to visiting two of the longest running fairs during Miami Art Week, avid art enthusiasts and industry leaders returned to enjoy [SOLO], highlighting established and independent emerging artists.

This year’s program featured an extensive series of daily activities for attendees, that included the Spotlight Program, a focused look at several cutting-edge galleries and artists chosen by the Redwood Art Group selection committee; Art Labs, a series of outstanding projects by leading galleries, art institutions, and art collectives within the fair; Meet the Artists and Live Demonstrations, presenting an interactive experience—allowing attendees to get up-close-and-personal with the artists; and The Discoveries Collection, – selections of artwork chosen by the Spectrum Miami curatorial team that make up a group of amazing discoveries throughout the fair, each priced at $3,000 or less.

 

Highlights from Spectrum Miami include:

  • Spectrum FOCUS — an expanded Jason Perez Art Collective exhibit — presented an art experience and special gathering of outsider art, street art, pop art, and urban art, complete with live painting demonstrations by some of today’s most innovative artists.
  • Save the Chimps unveiled the Bryan Adams Collection with Save the Chimps, an interspecies collection that was in high demand throughout the fair and brought international media attention.
  • The Spectrum Art Theater, sponsored by the Santa Fe Gallery Association, showcased multiple artists each day doing live art demonstrations, including Mathilda, Meg Fortin, Michel Velaquez, Erica Mills, Vivi Bennett, Elidea, Wasted Sergej, Karim Aboud, W Art, Cody Parker, and Kay Shannon.

 

Artists and galleries received special honors as recipients of this year’s awards, as follows:

  • Spotlight Award: Erick Mota, Gerard Frank, Mauricio Malagutti, Nikolai Petrov, Art Petrovik, Russell Scott and Modest Art 88
  • Directors’ Award: Von Seibert, Lingua Fine Art, Adam Rose, and Jason Perez Art Collective
  • Best Booth Design: Danny Glass and Erica Mills
  • Sculpture Award: Marco Oliver Collection, and Liliana Mendez, Punto de Encuentro Art
  • Award of Excellence:Dana Swedo Bernal
  • Best New Exhibitor: Veronica Russek and Charlotte Fonne Art
  • Best International Exhibitor: Ales Y Luisa and Mulata Von Kindy
  • Best [SOLO] Exhibitor: Velart Co. and Gil Goren

 

Spectrum Miami exhibitors were thrilled by the strong turnout of collectors, with impressive sales, commissions, and notable gallery placements by [SOLO] artists reported throughout the show. Here are some highlights from this year’s exhibitor sales:

  • Returning exhibitor Nutted a Bust saw multiple sales, including Tangles, The Money Maker, and Golden Steps.
  • Brinton Farrand‘s return to Spectrum resulted in placements of multiple prints, tote bags, plus several of his iconic originals.
  • Rena Haber was back for a second year and excited to sell her original work Hypnos and make so many valuable connections.
  • Von Seibert also came back for a second year and placed Star Cluster in Orange, Comanche Moon, 3 sets of Star Cluster in Blue, Red Hibiscus, Solar Concerto, Three Stages of Love, Porsche Bomb, History of the 992, Porsche Shield, and several others by Sunday’s close.
  • Vargas Reis’ Ferroccious Art booth was a busy place with sales of Life in Technicolor, Dance in the Water, andu.n.n.y.
  • Keyon’s The Art School Dropout Studio booth sold multiple pieces from his collections including Underpass, Young & Reckless, Stoop, Canary Yellow, Postal, Bombing, Ready’s Decision, Mask Off, and 808 and Heartbreaks Ready. 
  • Shelley Lake came back to Spectrum and sold three of her Hell in Heels Limited Editions, plus The Photographer.
  • Erica Mills had a nearly sold-out booth by the end of the day on Sunday, placing Inhale the Positive, Make It Happen, Born with Swagger, All Aglow, and Take Me to the Beach.
  • Alfano Sculpture was back for the 2024 edition of Spectrum with his iconic sculptures and sold 5 pieces of Liquid Sunshine, 2 pieces of Music & Mind Meld, We Two Together, 3 pieces of Questioning Mind, Know Thy Self, Money, In Vino Veritas, among many others.
  • Gerard Frank placed Directional Glance for $8,000, I Am Robot for $1,500, and Monto’s False Deity for $2,000.
  • Gil Goren placed two pieces of O Jerusalem My Love at $3,500 each, Amen 02 at $3,600, and Blue Vase for $4,000.
  • First time exhibitor Marco Oliver was very pleased to place Fragments for $18,000, You & I for $30,000, Fragments Series Green at $13,000, and Shimmering Dewdrops for $18,000.
  • Teenage artist Meg Fortin had a great first-time experience and sold her Saint Charles Borromee, Reflexion, Enchantement, The Cycle of Happiness, La Croisee des Ocens, and Surfing Day.

 

Highlights from Red Dot Miami include:

  • Acclaimed artist Tony Pharo kept the End to End Gallery booth jumping with his Unraveled Youth solo show and its interactive activation.
  • Artavita’s presentation of Betsy Ashton’s Portraits of Immigrants series, which captivated audiences with its emotional depth.
  • Once again Kris and Angela Gebhardt showcased their newest works in the Gebhardt Gallery – Booth 401 with Angela’s Celestial as a centerpiece.
  • The celebrated artist from Ghana, Alfred Addo of Addo Gallery, debuted a collection that included works by himself and all three brothers from the African nation.

 

Red Dot Miami featured galleries received special honors as recipients of this year’s awards, with the following winners:

  • Spotlight Award: Galerie Helligkeit, Gato Gordo Gallery, Hagan Fine Art, RAG Contemporary and Stanek Gallery
  • Directors’ Award: Gebhardt Gallery, K-Art Projects USA, and End to End Gallery
  • Best Booth Design: Roberta Schilling Collection and Biscayne Art Collective
  • Sculpture Award: Latchezar Contemporary and Thomas Wargin, Qoza Contemporary
  • Best New Exhibitor: Addo Gallery
  • Best International Exhibitor: Re d’Italia Art and Jean Cabral, The Coast Gallery

 

Showcasing artwork that ranged from watercolors to sculpture, from mixed media to Street Art, here is a sampling of highlights from this year’s exhibitor sales:

  • Returning exhibitor Latchezar Contemporary was pleased to place Latchezar’s Nucleus for $39,000, Harp at $28,000, several from his Cubes in Space Collection, in addition to other works sold.
  • End to End Gallery hosted Tony Pharo and sold multiple pieces from his Unraveled Youth including I’m Hanging Up My Hate, Running From My Emotions; Cookie Monster & Charlie Brown; Good Job, You Situationally Fell on Your Face; As Time Evolves We Morph into Different People; and Tickle Me; in addition to Peter Anton’s Dark Chocolate Bar at $25,000; Kai’s The Struggle for $45,000; Jeff Koons’ Monkey Train at $29,500; along with multiple other placements.
  • Artavita / World Wide Art was busy with sales of Marilyn Maxwell’s Lion Cub, Heinz Marzohl’s Boats in Sunset, Wendy Cohen’s Shapes and Tapes, Herbert Hermans’ Decay 2, Rmoo’s Read the Clouds 5, Marcia Shelly’s Under the Canopy 3, Stephanie Trombotti’s Perspectiva, and Sylivia Bandyke’s Green Suite.
  • AGI Fine Art placed Nicholas Shaplyko & Ekaterina Sorokina’s Museum of Modern Renaissance for $12,000 among several others.
  • BT Gallery was excited to place Gary Rosen’s Red Page Sixalong with Con$umr’s Cash Spray, Anxiety, and Panda & Bags mixed media pieces, among others.
  • As usual ArtNWordZ was busy throughout the fair and sold multiple prints and originals ranging in price from $600 to $6,000, including RBG, Jimmy Hendrix, Butterflies Fly, Waltz World, Flying Off the Page, along with many others.
  • Artio Gallery was busy throughout the five days, selling Hendrikka Waage’s Higher Self I & II, Kenny R.K.’s Well Done, Ana Cavagna Martinez’s BoundariesHenrique Diogo’s The Birth of the Rose, and Paola Montemayor’s Progression andFine Layers.
  • Sarah Steiber returned to Miami with an almost sold out booth, including placing Mirror Mirror, Swapping the Lens, Talk Through the Hand, Infinite Space Between, It Girl, Turning Toward Yourself, plus took commissions and placed several other pieces.
  • Soberon Studio placed Eduardo Martinez Soberon’s Tahiti 11, Peace and Love, Grecian Mood, plus several others including pieces of furniture.
  • Qoza Gallery featured Thomas Wargin’s sculptures and placed Contraption Ifor $17,500, plus 3 others.
  • First time exhibitor Farano Fine Art featured Justyn Farano’s works and placed Street Dreams LE Artist Proof at $10,000, Into the Record Booksfor $50,000, and Purple Rain for $3,000.

Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami have grown to become the ultimate destination for the fine art industry professional and contemporary art enthusiast who collectively seek a more accessible experience with exhibits showcasing the world’s most progressive portfolios by some of today’s elite artists, galleries, and emerging talents, with tens of thousands of art aficionados and collectors flocking to see the artwork of more than 1,000+ artists showcased by over 280 exhibitors.

Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will return next year to the Mana Wynwood Convention Center, from December 3—7, 2025.
