Join the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC and the Kislak Center at the University of Miami for Kislak Talks with Dr. Miguel Valerio. Visitors will have an opportunity to see a selection of works from the University of Miami’s Special Collections related to the African Diaspora in Latin America. Thereafter, Dr. Miguel Valerio, renowned author and scholar of the African diaspora in the Iberian World will talk about his latest research focused on Black lay Catholic brotherhoods or confraternities and Afro-Creole festival practices in colonial Latin America. He will also discuss his multi-award-winning and highly acclaimed book, Sovereign Joy: Afro-Mexican Kings and Queens, 1539-1640.

Refreshments will be served.
