Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Unveils Newest Terminal 2 Art Exhibit
In partnership with the Broward Cultural Division, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) unveiled its newest exhibit in the Terminal 2 Art Gallery, “Illustration and Augmented Reality Art,” by South Florida artist Catalina Villegas. The Broward-based illustrator is known for bold, colorful works that merge digital illustration with augmented reality (AR).
“My creations are a celebration of the intricate dance between nature and technology, a fusion of traditional artistic expression and the cutting edge of augmented reality experiences,” said Villegas of her work. “By merging the organic beauty of flora and fauna with the digital interactivity of AR, I aim to offer a sensory journey that transcends the visual, inviting audiences to explore the vibrant intersection of culture, nature, and technology.”
Villegas’ FLL exhibit showcases butterflies and flora native to Florida, weaving themes of flight and transformation into the narrative.
“The butterflies – symbols of resilience, growth, and renewal – echo the spirit of human travel and discovery that defines the airport experience,” she said.” Their graceful flight mirrors the freedom and movement inherent in aviation, creating a connection between nature’s cycles and travelers’ journeys.”
The Terminal 2 Art Gallery, located post-security in Concourse D, encompasses the north and south waiting areas that serve seven of the airport’s passenger gates.
“We are delighted to bring FLL’s first augmented reality exhibit to our Terminal 2 Art Gallery, and we hope that our guests interact with the artwork and playfully learn about the richness of South Florida’s flora and fauna,” said Mark Gale, FLL CEO/Director of Aviation.
The Terminal 2 Art Gallery highlights the work of South Florida professional artists via temporary exhibitions that rotate every six months.
