Call to Artists: Artist Registry – Housing and Community Development

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade County Department of Housing and Community Development request qualifications for regional artists.

In response to an influx of new Miami-Dade County Housing and Community Development projects, the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Art in Public Places program seeks to create a shortlist of approximately 25-30 artists that can be drawn upon to create artwork proposals for various housing initiatives, including affordable, workforce, and elderly housing throughout the County with differing construction timelines.

The artists’ shortlist is subject to the approval of the Art in Public Places Trust and will remain active for a minimum of (1) year from its approval. Shortlist artists will be invited to develop proposals for one or more facilities throughout this one year in smaller groups of 5-7 artists each. The schedule of proposal development and presentations, and selection of finalists will be defined per each specific housing project.

ABOUT MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ART IN PUBLIC PLACES

Celebrating 50 years, Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places is a program of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, one of the first public art programs in the country. The program was established in 1973 with the passage of an ordinance allocating 1.5% of capital costs of new local government buildings for the purchase or commission of artworks, educational programs and collection maintenance. The Art Trust Fund is administered by a County Commission-appointed citizens board, the Art in Public Places Trust, in consultation with its Professional Advisory Committee.
