Las Paredes Oyens is a gripping and emotional play, written by Robby Ramos, that delves into a poignant story set against the backdrop of a 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis-era tropical gulag, where a prison warden’s conversation with an American radio host unfolds, while the fate of a family hangs in the balance.
Marking Robby Ramos’s debut as a playwright, Las Paredes Oyen introduces audiences to the talents of the Miami born actor, renowned for his portrayal of ‘Diego Cottonmouth’ in the Starz hit TV series “Heels,” which premiered its second season this past summer.
Inspired by the experiences of Ramos’s own grandfather, a Cuban dissident who endured time in the notorious prison camp depicted in the play, Las Paredes Oyen serves as the playwright’s “love letter to Cuban political prisoners and the Cuban diaspora.” The narrative delves into universal themes of family bonds, oppression, and justice.
Each performance will kick off with an exclusive sneak peek viewing of the upcoming “Cubans: An Epic Journey” exhibit at the museum, followed by a half hour cocktail experience where guests will be given a complimentary cocktail and then lead upstairs to the immersive play. The entire two hour experience will finish off with a rum garden after party featuring Cuban music, cigars, and culinary delights for purchase in the museum terrace.
Having premiered at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center last spring to sold-out shows, emotionally charged word-of-mouth acclaim, and positive reviews from critics, the return of the play is a joint effort between the producers of the play and The American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora.
